Wills

A proper will.
Made from home.

Answer a few questions online, in your own time. Our lawyers prepare your will, talk it through with you by video, and keep it safe. Simple for you, and done the way a law firm does it.

How it works

Four easy steps, with a lawyer the whole way.

Five minutes of questions. A signed will within three business days.

  1. Step 1

    Tell us about you

Answer some simple questions online, in your own time. Who is in your family, who you trust, who you would like to look after. About five minutes, and you can save and come back.

  2. Step 2

    We prepare your will

One of our lawyers prepares and reviews your will on the firm’s own precedent. It is emailed to you within one business day, as a draft for you to read.

  3. Step 3

    Read it, and tell us

Take your time with it. If it is exactly right, say so. If anything needs changing, just tell us in your own words. One round of changes is included.

  4. Step 4

    Meet your lawyer and sign

A relaxed video meeting of up to an hour. Your lawyer explains the will, answers your questions, checks your ID and guides you through signing on camera. Then it goes into our safe.

Why do it with a law firm

Peace of mind, not just a document.

A will is one of the kindest things you can leave the people you love. It gives them clarity at the time they will need it most. Online kits can produce the words. What they cannot do is tell you whether those words will actually do what you want, which depends on your family, how you own things, your superannuation and the people who might one day have a claim.

That is what the lawyer is for. Every will prepared through this service is reviewed by a Joshi Lawyers solicitor, and before you sign, your lawyer talks it through with you, answers your questions and makes sure it says what you mean. We check your identity and supervise the witnessing so the will is valid, and the firm stands behind it as it does behind every document that leaves our office.

If you would like, you can appoint us as your executor, so your family is spared the administration and the will is already safely with us.

Questions people ask us

If yours is not here, call us on 03 8386 9502. We are happy to help.

  • Is this a proper will?

Yes. It is prepared by Joshi Lawyers from your answers, on the same precedent we use for every client, reviewed and signed off by one of our lawyers, and signed with a lawyer present. The only difference from coming into the office is that you do it from home.

  • What if my situation is a bit complicated?

Just tell us at the start. Whether it is a blended family, wanting to leave someone out, a business, a trust or a self-managed super fund, or property overseas, you can still make your will online. Your answers go to the lawyer reviewing it, and your consultation is where those things are talked through properly. If something needs more than the service includes, we will say so and give you a quote before any extra work.

  • How is it signed?

By video, with your lawyer. Victorian law allows a will to be signed and witnessed this way under a procedure a lawyer supervises. You sign on camera and our two witnesses sign in turn. You need to be in Victoria on the day. If you would rather sign on paper, you are very welcome to come into the office instead.

  • Who will be my executor?

Whoever you choose. Many clients appoint Joshi Lawyers, so that an experienced professional handles everything and their family is spared the paperwork. Others name a family member or friend, with a back-up. If you appoint us, we explain how we are paid before you sign, as the rules require, and you can change your mind at any time.

  • Where is the will kept?

With us, in our safe, at no charge. You receive a copy, a storage certificate and a small card for your executor so the will can always be found. You can collect it or update it whenever you like.

  • What about my superannuation?

Super is paid by your fund, not under your will, unless the fund pays it to your estate. Your lawyer will talk through your nominations at the consultation, and the superannuation guide sets out exactly what to lodge with each fund.

  • Is my information safe?

Yes. Your answers are encrypted, held securely, and seen only by the lawyers and staff working on your will. Payment is handled by Stripe, and we never see your card details. Our privacy policy has the detail.

  • What if I change my mind?

If we decide the service does not suit your situation, you are refunded in full. If you withdraw before your draft is prepared, you are refunded less $99 for the work done. The terms of service set this out.

This page is general information about our online will service, not legal advice. A draft prepared through the service becomes your will only when it is signed and witnessed, which is arranged with your lawyer at your consultation. The service is available for wills governed by the law of Victoria. Liability limited by a scheme approved under professional standards legislation.
